Brand new to this forum...old-time shade tree mechanic. Daughters buick has ignition key problem. Key won't turn, problem is pretty obviously mechanical (messed up tumbler mechanism) I know I will have to go to GM to get a new one and get a key coded to it, but could'nt take to dealer if i wanted to because wheels and transmission are locked up. Solution is to take assembly off and take to dealer, but I can't figure out how to get it off. Switch assembly is held to the steering column by two torx screws, one of which is "conveintly" located so that it cannot be removed without taking the steering wheel off....and the steering wheel cannot be removed without taking the air bag out of the center of the wheel. Auto Zone has a pretty good write-up on their site....says there are either torx screws or spring clips holding it on from the rear, however the plastic cover on the back side of the wheel only separates an inch or so when the screws are removed and I can't see enough to locate the aforementioned screws or clips. Anybody know how that airbag assembly is removed. From what I can gather, 01 through 05 have the same steering post assemblys. HELP!!!
