Focus diesel (Endura) cambelt problem
neighbour asked me to help him. with his 52 reg Focus diesel.
Water pump vanes had sheared and when changing he noticed cam belt was only 1/2 it's proper width.
New, Gates, belt along with tensioner should have cured problem but whilst ticking over after doing the job the new belt started to get "chewed" up as well.
I cann't see anything wrong. The belt is moving outwards so it catches on a (small manufactured timing type) nick in the cam shaft pulley which then shreds it up.
Pushing the belt as far onto the pulleys as possible you can see it working outwards after just, say, 10 turns on the starter.
As I said new belt, new tensioner, no damage , no wear on pullies or bearings etc.
Any suggestions what it making the belt move sideways ?
