Question Radiator cause water pump failure?

I had the wrong radiator put into my vehicle after a mechanic broke it while doing a transmission flush. I didn't know that the incorrect radiator was put in until I had to get my water pump replaced and the mechanic doing that job couldnt get a connector that fit my transmission cooling line back to the radiator (the one that was in there was manipulated to fit when it wasn't intended to). My water pump failed about 7-8 months after this radiator was put in. I have to go to court over the issue and have been told that this is the most likely cause of my water pump failure. Is this true? If so, how would it make the water pump fail? I don't want to ask for money that isn't owed, but I also can't afford to spend money on things as a result of some one else's mistake!

I believe the incorrect radiator had nothing to do with it.
