I have a 1982 Corvette with a 700r4 that needs replacing. Will a 700r4 from a mid '80s chevy van with V-8 fit my Corvette?
I have heard that some truck 700r4s had different bolt patterns.
Thanks

well i don't have actual experience in replacing a 700r4 with a new one or a second hand one but i have actually have my engine replaced with a different kind of engine. they have different bolt patterns but what the mechanic did was improvised in the engine support bolt patterns to fit the vehicle. maybe your mechanic could do the same if ever the bolt patterns are different. what do you think?
Thanks Danny. Just the information I needed. I will check out all the links provided.
Thanks again
hi 700r4 is it the engine model or what?
700r4 is the transmission used first in the 1982 Corvette.
Information from other sites indicate that a 700r4 from any V-8 Chevy will be a direct bolt in. The later models are electronically shifted. V-6 models have a different bolt pattern.
I found one from a mid '80s Chevy van.
Thanks to all for comments and hepl from all.
your welcome. good to hear that you were able to find a better fit for your engine's transmission. I will also check the website that danny provided for me to gain more knowledge about transmissions. thanks
Hi 700r4 is a performance transmission right? Is it a good quality transmission? Other says that it has a good quality input shaft.

I think you have to modify a little for the bolt patterns for the transmission to fit in.
